Steven Feiner
SEGD and the Future of Design

In his May 30, 2002 SEGD presentation, Feiner showed his most recent work using mobile augmented reality systems (MARS) to supplement real-world experience of actual places with information-rich overlays of labels, signage, wayfinding, and interpretation. As a computer scientist, Feiner challenged designers in the audience to engage these new technologies and help him and his fellow researchers extend the technical capabilities into useful design solutions. More information about Feiner's work may be found on Columbia University's Computer Graphics and User Interfaces Laboratory website.

Steven Feiner is a Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University, where he directs the Computer Graphics and User Interfaces Laboratory. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Brown University in 1987. His research interests include virtual environments and augmented reality, knowledge-based design of graphics and multimedia, information visualization, wearable computing, and hypermedia. Profesor Feiner is coauthor of Computer Graphics: Principles and Practice and Introduction to Computer Graphics.
