Why Don't We Do It in the Road Ahead? —Part 1, Infrastructure Realignment
The key trends to which AEC/FM and plant/process technologists should direct this year's management attention and technology budget can be grouped into three clusters: Infrastructure Realignment; Applications Integration; and Security Enhancement. We'll examine the latter two clusters in upcoming issues; this time we look at Infrastructure Realignment, which includes four of the twelve tech trends for 2003:
- Why Don't We Do It in the Road Ahead? —Part 1, Infrastructure Realignment > Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP)
- Why Don't We Do It in the Road Ahead? —Part 1, Infrastructure Realignment > Wireless networking
- Why Don't We Do It in the Road Ahead? —Part 1, Infrastructure Realignment > Web services
- Why Don't We Do It in the Road Ahead? —Part 1, Infrastructure Realignment > Outsourcing

Now that engineers, architects, constructors and owners are poised to adopt collaborative design via data-intensive, 3D-and-more digital modeling, researchers are studying input/output (I/O) media and methods that may better support the new design tools. From laser scanning and gesture recognition to augmented reality and gamesmanship, the entry, manipulation and viewing/reviewing of design data will be radically transformed.
